Press Release Palomares Search for Suspect

La Verne, CA – On October 29, 2023, La Verne Police Officers were dispatched to 1300 block of Palomares Avenue regarding a domestic violence incident that took place at approximately 3:24AM. The suspect, who is known to the victim, had entered the residence without consent, caused
injury to the victim, stole the victims cell phone and vehicle, then fled the location.

At approximately 5:50 AM the suspect returned, forcing entry into the residence. The victim was able to escape and wait for units to arrive. Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight.

A perimeter was established and based on the circumstances; The Foothill Special Enforcement Team (FSET) was activated. In addition to this mutual aid response, other law enforcement agencies were summoned to assist.

The LA Sheriff Aero Bureau responded with the assistance of their airship. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and Claremont Police Department responded with their scent Canines and the West Covina Police Department responded with their patrol canine. Other assistance by provided by the Pomona Police Department and Covina Police Department.

After a lengthy search for the suspect, it was determined that he had escaped the perimeter, and the search was called off. A search of the residence was conducted, and a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence.

La Verne Detectives continue working to locate the suspect, who is not a La Verne resident and whose only known connection to La Verne is his relationship with the victim.
